A Practical Workshop for Parents Who Want Better Photos

Learn simple steps to capture the magic in your everyday moments

I’m so glad you’re here…..

I’ve run several successful workshops down at the beautiful Te Hā Tama Ariki midwife drop-in clinic. It’s one of my absolute favourite places. No matter when you stop in, you’re welcomed, nurtured, and looked after.

My youngest is now three, and I have no intention of any more babies, so any chance I get to work with these fabulous humans, I jump at it.

This workshop is designed to be short (you’re on baby time, after all). It’s full of quick, actionable steps you can put in place straight away to start taking beautiful photos of your most precious thing in the world.

These days may feel long, but man, they fly by. I’m ten years deep into motherhood now, and the moments I thought I’d remember forever are a distant, fuzzy blur.

So, while nothing can replace a professional photo shoot (of course I have to say that, ha ha!), the camera you have in your hand is the most important one. Let me show you how to use it to take better photos of your kids, right now.

An added bonus — and something so close to my heart — I’ve included a section on getting in the frame with your bubs and tamariki.

You take photos of your kids for your memories,
but you get in photos with your kids for their memories.

If that line hits home(it still sometimes gives me goosebumps), you’ll probably love my blog post [But where are you, Mama?] — it’s all about that quiet realisation that we’re often missing from our own family stories.

What You’ll Learn

This isn’t a big technical photography course — it’s short, relaxed, and designed for real life with little ones.

You’ll learn how to:

  • Use your phone or camera to capture better photos in any light

  • Understand simple composition tricks that make a huge difference

  • Photograph movement (because babies and toddlers do not sit still)

  • Find and use natural light to make your images shine

  • Take more photos that actually feel like your child

And because I know how easy it is to stay behind the camera, we’ll also talk about how to get in the frame — even when you don’t feel like it.

You’ll leave with easy, actionable steps you can use straight away. No fancy gear, no pressure, just genuine connection and the confidence to capture it.

What to Bring

Just bring yourself, your baby, and whatever camera you usually use — your phone is perfect.

You don’t need anything fancy. The whole point of this workshop is learning to use what you already have.

Tulsi will help make sure you’ve got a cuppa in hand, and there’ll be a space set up for nappy changes. It’s a calm, safe environment for you and your little one.

There’s no toilet in the studio just yet, but you’re very welcome to use the bathroom in my home right next door.

How to Get Here

Aisling O’Brien Photography
66A Kaipara Coast Highway, Helensville

We’re just two minutes from central Helensville — easy to find by popping the address into Google Maps.

When you turn into the driveway, follow it all the way up the hill. It’s a gravel road, about a kilometre long and a little steep in places, but totally fine for all vehicles. Just take it slow.

When you get to the top of the steep hill, look over to your right — you’ll see a black house and a big American-style barn beside it. That’s us.

Park near the barn, and I’ll be there to meet you at the studio door.

One day, these photos will remind them what it felt like to be loved by you.
